FLY FILM COMPANY
Fly Film Company is a new venture, formed in 2009 by producers Kate Ogborn and Lisa Marie Russo. Productions include the feature films Self Made and The Deep Blue Sea, and the short film Room Service.
Fly are developing feature films with directors Ken Loach, Marc Munden, Julian Jarrold, and Harry Wootliffe, and an artists’ documentary collaboration between director Andrew Kotting and writer Iain Sinclair.
LISA MARIE RUSSO – Producer
Lisa Marie Russo recently produced Turner Prize winner Gillian Wearing’s feature debut, Self Made, and executive produced the short film Room Service, starring Jeremy Swift. She is an executive producer on The Deep Blue Sea.
Prior to creating Fly Film, she executive produced Terence Davies’ documentary Of Time and the City as well as the films Salvage and Kicks as part of Digital Departures, a scheme to celebrate the Capital of Culture in Liverpool ‘08. Of Time and the City was Terence’s first creative documentary, it re-launched his career, was critically acclaimed at the Cannes Film Festival in 2009, and was nominated for a Bafta, Bifa and Grierson Award. Of Time and the City was on Time Magazine’s list of Top Ten Movies for 2009, and was the winner of the New York Film Critics’ Circle for Best Documentary, 2009.
Lisa Marie produced the BBC2 film Shiny Shiny Bright New Hole in My Heart starring Sally Hawkins and co-produced the feature film Brothers of the Head, starring Luke and Harry Treadaway and winner of the Michael Powell Award for Best British Film at the Edinburgh Film Festival. Prior to moving to the UK, she directed documentaries for PBS in Philadelphia, and won an Emmy for Peace about the Gulf War.
KATE OGBORN – Executive Producer
Prior to setting up Fly Film, Kate was Head of Television at Revolution Films. She co-produced Tony Grisoni’s adaptation of David Peace’s crime novels, The Red Riding Trilogy and Samantha Morton’s directorial debut, The Unloved, which premiered at Toronto Film Festival, and screened in competition at Thessaloniki International Film Festival and Stockholm International Film Festival. The Unloved won a Bafta for Best Single Drama in 2010.
Kate’s other producer and executive producer credits include the award winning Under the Skin and Shane Meadows’ This is England. Kate is currently producing (with Sean O’Connor of Camberwell Films) Terence Davies’ adaptation of The Deep Blue Sea, by Terence Rattigan. The film stars Rachel Weisz, Simon Russell-Beale and Tom Hiddleston.
MARC MUNDEN – Executive Producer
Marc Munden was an assistant director to Mike Leigh, Derek Jarman and Terence Davies before directing documentaries. His TV dramas include “The Secret World of Michael Fry” and “Touching Evil” by Paul Abbott, Andrew Davies’ adaptation of “Vanity Fair”, which received 6 BAFTA nominations and a FIPA d’Or; and “Conviction”, Best European Drama Series at Monte Carlo, and BAFTA nominated. Munden was writer/director of the shopping addiction drama “Shiny Shiny Bright New Hole In My Heart” starring Sally Hawkins. In 2008, “The Mark Of Cain” won a BAFTA and the Amnesty Prize at the Rotterdam Film Festival. In 2009, “The Devil’s Whore”, by Peter Flannery, won four Royal Television Society Awards, including Best Serial.
Most recently, he directed for the BBC the single drama “Some Dogs Bite”, and “The Crimson Petal and The White”, a four-part adaptation of Michel Faber’s international best selling novel.
SAMM HAILLAY AND DUANE HOPKINS, Third Films – Co-producers
Third was founded in 2001 by writer-director Duane Hopkins and producer Samm Haillay with the intention of creating challenging work by directors with unique cinematic handwriting. After two multi-award winning short films, Hopkins’ debut feature Better Things premiered to international acclaim in competition as part of Critics Week at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival and was released theatrically worldwide winning a clutch of awards. Third has also produced award winning short films for Andrew McVicar and Daniel Elliott, whose BAFTA nominated Jade won the Silver Bear in Berlin in 2009. In 2010 Third co-produced Gillian Wearing’s feature debut Self Made while developing a slate of short, feature and installation work.
